Breast Health Resource Guide

Our comprehensive breast health resource guide offers a list of support services available for those diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as information about free or low-cost breast cancer screening for those without insurance.

Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program

The mission of the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program is to educate, support, empower, and advocate for breast cancer patients, professionals, and the community. Individual and family counseling is provided by licensed social workers and masters level social work interns. Telephone counseling is available statewide along with in-person counseling in English and Spanish. Our statewide hotline is staffed by professionally trained, supervised volunteers, all of whom are breast cancer survivors and is available 365 days a year. Comprehensive support groups (offered in English and Spanish), as well as educational programs, are available to breast cancer patients, their families, and caregivers year-round.

ACS, in a cooperative effort with hotels across the country, provides free overnight accommodation(s) to cancer patients who must travel far for outpatient treatment and need assistance with lodging.

 

Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition, BBCC


Patient support services, education, and advocacy programs for residents of the township of Babylon. The Lend a Helping Hand Program provides direct services to individuals recovering from recent breast or gynecological cancer surgery and those undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation for those cancers. Clients choose from a variety of services that include house cleaning, door-to-door transportation, financial assistance, massage therapy and childcare.

CancerCare- Financial Assistance Program – Nassau/Suffolk/New York City

Limited financial assistance for cancer-related costs such as transportation, home care and childcare for people with all diagnoses. Financial assistance with pain and anti-nausea medication, oral hormonal medication, lymphedema supplies and durable medical equipment for people with breast cancer. Patients must have a diagnosis of cancer, be in active treatment and meet the eligibility guideline of 250% of the Federal Poverty Limit.

Cancer Services Program at Nassau University Medical Center – Nassau County

Comprehensive cancer screening and counseling services that directs individuals to designated medical facilities like NUMC, where breast, cervical and colorectal screenings are regularly performed free of charge for women and men who qualify for eligibility. Full Circle Breast Cancer Recovery Program – Ivy Rehab Physical Therapy


Full Circle exclusively treats patients recovering from a breast cancer diagnosis. This comprehensive, individualized program is geared towards all phases of recovery. At NUMC, regular cancer screening is the most potent weapon we have in the battle against this invasive and relentless disease. If you are uninsured or facing financial hardship, we have several grants to help with the cost. These grants allow NUMC to provide screening mammograms with no out-of-pocket expense. Empire Dragons NYC

Founded in 2009 by Donna Wilson, James Lozada, and Jennifer Merendino, Empire Dragons NYC is New York City’s first and only breast cancer survivor team comprised of members from throughout the tri-state area. In addition, we are one of over 200 breast cancer survivor teams worldwide that serve to promote the sport of dragon boating as part of a healthy lifestyle and provide a unique support for those fighting cancer.

Empire Dragons NYC is an active member of the IBCPC, International Breast Cancer Paddler’s Commission. Although many of our races are IBCPC sanctioned, there are several races during the season which also include members with all types of cancer. We are a competitive racing team, and during our season, we participate in up to six dragon boat festivals in the northeastern United States and Canada.

Empire practices several times a week at the World’s Fair Flushing Bay Marina, and the team also meets on and off season for physical training and cardio fitness. Empire is dedicated to empowering women to survive and thrive beyond cancer. We work to improve the environment in which we all live, as well as promoting exercise and nutrition as a means toward a healthy and fulfilling life.
